  1. Article: 02 Photography Basics – Capturing That Picture It doesn’t matter whether you are new or experienced in photography. Knowing the photography basics will help you capture the perfect picture every time. Even professionals swear by them and recommend learning the basics, which can go a long way regardless of your chosen subject, your camera, or your aesthetic. Here is an overview of the things you must know and apply to start taking better pictures: Avoid taking pictures in auto mode Auto mode helps you avoid the guesswork, but it is usually not intuitive enough to take high- quality pictures. You will need to learn to take pictures using other modes, like manual, shutter- priority, or aperture-priority. When learning photography basics, you need to master three concepts: ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, as well as their relationship with one another. This means familiarizing yourself with the exposure triangle. The rule of thirds This basic photography principle can help you compose your photos more effectively. Imagine four lines with two vertical and two horizontal ones across the image, resulting in nine squares with equal proportions. Certain images will look better when the focal point is at the center, but you could also try putting the subject off-center, particularly at one of the intersecting points of imaginary lines, so you can compose an aesthetically nice photograph. Some digital cameras can display those lines on the viewfinder or on the LCD screen for your guidance. Ways to prevent shaky photos One of the important photography basics is to hold your camera properly, so it will remain steady. Use both hands, with one around the lens and the other around the body. Keep the camera close to your body to support it. Make sure the shutter speed is suitable for the focal length of the lens. When using long exposure, set up your camera on a monopod or a tripod to keep it steady. Apply a photography filter Thinking of getting a filter for your lens? Choose a circular polarizer to let your camera use through-the-lens (TTL) metering, like auto exposure. The filter can help minimize reflections from glass, metal, and water, and enhances the colors of foliage and the sky, while protecting your lens. Try to apply these tips when taking pictures to practice and master them. Over time, you should eventually improve your photography and be able to capture any picture perfectly. Consider signing up for online photography classes, too, so a professional photographer can guide and mentor you and help you master the photography basics.
