2. The Field • *Regulation football field (without end zones) = 100 yards • *Length of end zone = 10 yards • *Distance between yard lines = 5 yards

4. Details • *touch down-advancing beyond the other teams goal line • *touch down = 6 points • *a down is an attempt or try • *a line of scrimmage is where the play end and starts

5. Extras • *the red zone is when a team is in scoring position -once your team has entered into the other team’s 20 • *field goal = 3 points • *point scored after a touch down = 1 point conversion (the extra point)

Quarterback - offensive back that leads and directs the offense, usually throwing and handing off • Center - starts with the ball in the center of the offense and snaps the ball through his legs to the quarterback • Basic Positions - Offense vs. Defense -has possession of the ball and is attempting to score is offense -attempting to keep the other team from scoring is defense

Throwing a football • Please watch the video for more details on throwing • Start with the T position, opposite hand pointing to target, throwing arm forming an L, transfer your weight from your back foot to your front foot as you step and throw to target. • Make sure to step with your opposite foot when throwing, keeping a high release to your target and ending with your throwing thumb at your opposite hip, using your index finger to create a nice spiral.

8. Catching a football • You need to have soft hands to catch a football properly. Think of the ball hitting a pillow, not a wall. • When the ball is above your waist, your hands will be open (palms) to your partner and your thumbs will be facing inward. • When the ball is below your waist, your hands will remain open to the ball, but will rotate down and your pinky fingers will be facing inward. • In a handoff, a running back creates an “open mouth” for the quarterback to place the ball, keeping the arm closest to the ball up.

Punting a football • Please watch the video to help you understand the punting dynamics. • Remember to have two hands on the ball, extending arms out, and dropping it “on the table.” Do not toss the football when punting it. • When approaching a punt, keep the body forward and keep your toe pointed down, using a flat part of your foot to punt the ball. -leaning back and using your toe will result in a high and short kick

10. How to play • Under basic football rules, the goal of the game is to get the ball to the end zone. • The ball can be moved down the field by passing or running it. The defensive football positions work hard to stop the ball from moving, either through intercepting it or stopping a runner or passer. Play stops when possession of the ball is lost.

LMS Flag Football • 8 downs total • Set up at the line of scrimmage (look for the flag) • QB cannot run the ball - cannot be rushed • Kick-off each time your team scores -always kick-off in the same direction (the same way you are running) • Throw the flag down where you take it off • Everyone must try their best and have fun!
