HWL: 9/18/12 • Voice Lesson Packets (Diction, Detail, Imagery, Syntax, and Tone) * Review Detail Definition J.E. #11: Detail The dog stood up and growled like a lion, stiff-standing hackles, teeth uncovered as he lashed up his fury for the charge. Tea Cake split the water like an otter, opening his knife as he dived. The dog raced down the back-bone of the cow to the attack and Janie screamed and slipped far back on the tail of the cow, just out of reach of the dog’s angry paws. • Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God • Which details reveal that the dog has rabies? What effect do these details have on the reader? • Contrast the details used to describe Tea Cake (the male protagonist) and Janie (the female protagonist). What do these details reveal about the author’s attitude toward these two characters? • Find a passage from TFA(incl. p. #) and extend this passage with more DETAIL. • Write YOUR BEST example of detail from your character sketch or extended metaphor.

Poster discussion • Fri., Sept. 21: Claim/evidence Essay on most significant event that has impacted our society since your birth: Pre-write and Draft 1 (don’t forget to include Vocab. 1 & 2 words)  Mon., Sept. 24: Grade Recovery for Resumes - Make all necessary improvements - Staple the committee-evaluated rubric and resume to back of revised - Due Mon., Sept. 24 • Thurs., Sept. 27: Publish-Ready: Character Sketch or Extended Metaphor (typed hard copy due (MLA format) and turnitin.com submission deadline) • Mon., Sept. 17: Deadline for Mandatory sign up to use www.edmodo.com 2nd per. Students will have 2 weeks to submit resume to committee. • August 30 Meeting in Auditorium • Overview and Expectations of Student Proposal presented. Students will have 4 weeks to submit proposal to committee. • September 6 **Due Date for Resume • September 13 **Due Date for Mentor Approval Form • September 20 Meeting in Auditorium • Overview and Expectations of Proclamation Posters presented. Students will have 2 weeks to submit to committee • September 20 **Due Date for Proposal • September 27 Meeting in Auditorium • Overview and Expectations of the Senior Project Portfolio which will be a culmination of all the work for the semester and will be presented in the Board Rooms Senior Project Night • October TBD **Due Date for Research Paper (exact date to be determined by English Teacher) • October 4 **Due Date for Proclamation Poster • October 11 Meeting in Auditorium • Overview and Expectations of Letter to the Judges presented.
