The Bodies Natural Response to Stress • GABA is the body’s natural form of anxiety • And works to relieve 40% of the brains neutrons of anxiety and stress. • GABAreacts with The neuron receptors and has a general quieting effect. It does this by reacting the GABA receptors on the outside of the receiving neuron. It opens these receptors which releases the flow of chloride ions into the neutrons • Chloride ions make it harder for the neuron to be stimulated by other neurotransmitters, thus slowing down its activites
Benzodiazepines (BZs) • Librium and Valium • Used to treat: anxiety and stress - slow down the activites of the central nervous system • GABA is the body’s natural form of anxiety relief 40% of the brains neutrons. GABA reacts with The neuron receptors and has a general quieting effect. It does this by reacting with GABA receptors on the outside of the receiving neuron. Chloride ions make it harder for the neuron to be stimulated by other neurotransmitters, thus slowing down its activites • BZs enhance the action of GABA and works on the brain harsher drugs, severe stress
Beta-Blockers(BBs) • Reduce the activity of adrenaline and noradrenalin. • Bind to receptors on the cells of the heart and other cells of the body that are usually stimulated during arousal • Slowing the heart less harsh on going stressor s minimal side effects • Blocking these receptors, is harder to stimulate cells I the heart it beats slower and with less force, and blood vesicles do not contract so easily. This results in a fall in blood pressure, and therefore less stress on the heart • The person feels calmer and less anxious. Beta-blockers are often used by sports players e.g. snooker / dart players and musicians to reduce arousal because sympathetic arousal may have a negative affect on performance
