  3. What is the addictive drug found in all forms of tobacco? Carbon Monoxide Name the colorless, odorless gas found in cigarette smoke that blocks the oxygen from getting into the bloodstream. Nicotine

  4. List the short term effects that can be seen very soon after a person begins to smoke: a. Stimulates the brain reward system b. increases heart rate and blood pressure c. increases breathing rate d.  increases blood-sugar levels e. stimulates the vomit reflex

  5. List the long term effects of tobacco use: Addiction Bronchitis & Emphysema Heart and Artery Diseases Cancer

  6. How can using tobacco effect your immune system? Chemicals in smoke reduce the activity of the immune system so you are more likely to get sick. Damaging the immune system increases your chances of suffering from diseases such as cancer

  7. What is the difference between the following types of smoke? SIDE STREAM SMOKE Smoke from the burning end of the cigarette MAINSTREAM SMOKE Smoke that is inhaled through a tobacco product and exhaled by a tobacco smoker SECONDHAND SMOKE Combination of exhaled mainstream smoke and side stream smoke.

  8. How can tobacco use affect a pregnancy? Anything the mother takes into her body the baby also takes in. CARBON MONOXIDE in tobacco products cuts down the oxygen supply to the baby increasing your chances of birth defects, premature births, miscarriage, still births etc…

  9. How does tobacco use affect families and society? Costs society money in medical care, insurance costs, accidental fires etc… Costs the family money • buying tobacco products • lost of wages • medical bills • funeral costs
