  2. Anatomy and Appearance Here are some facts…. The wood turtle can be know as the old red leg because of its red legs and arms. • Mid sized • Full size is 20-24 cm • Weigh o.4-1.5 kg • They can grow to be 16-25 cm long

  3. Diet The wood turtle gets it’s energy from… • Fruits • Berries • Eggs • Carrion • Plants and meats • Snails and frogs

  4. Habitat and Range The wood turtle is usually found In areas like banks, and Open lands or fields. In dry seasons they are most likely To be found in swampy areas to Keep moist.

Reproduction and young • The wood turtle lays 3-20 eggs • The baby’s emerge from their eggs 60-70 days later • Hatchlings are 20-28 mm when they hatch • Require 17-18 years to reach maturity • Some females lay one clutch a year • Reproduce during the spring • Sometimes they never hatch due too raccoons, skunks, shrews, and foxes

  9. Conservation In order to protect this species they are researching the wood turtle and its habitat to protect it from its natural enemy's. Also they are trying to not pollute the water and cut down less trees to keep the wood turtle far from extinction.
