  3. The One True God is… • Sovereign • All-consuming • Overwhelming

The One True God is… Exodus 33:20–23 But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” Then the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”

  5. The One True God is… • Sovereign • All-consuming • Overwhelming • Absolutely, perfectly Holy

  6. “Holy” “to be set apart, distinct” • Ceremonial – separate from the common • Moral – separate from sin • Absolute – separate from everything Revelation 15:4 “Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For all the nations will come and worship before You, For Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

  7. “Holy” “to be set apart, distinct” • Ceremonial – separate from the common • Moral – separate from sin • Absolute – separate from everything “[God] is utterly set apart in a class by himself, unequaled, unrivaled, totally un-derived, absolute in his being and perfection, without beginning or ending or improvement.” John Piper

  8. “Holy” “to be set apart, distinct” Revelation 4:8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.”

  9. The One True God is… • Sovereign • All-consuming • Overwhelming • Absolutely, perfectly Holy • Terrifying for Sinners • Immeasurably Gracious • Grace of salvation (v6-7) • Grace of significance (v8)

  10. How Big is your God? • Big enough to demand everything of you? • Big enough to meet your every need? • Big enough to deserve your complete obedience? • Big enough to inspire fear? “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” A.W. Tozer
