And Moses said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?" • Exodus 17:7 • So he called the name of the place Massah and • Meribah, because of the contention of the • children of Israel, and because they tempted • the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

  7. 2. Why God’s People Should not complain… • C. When we complain it often reaches the wrong audience. • Exodus 17:2 • Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, "Give us water, that we may drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?"

  8. 2. Why God’s People Should not complain… • C. When we complain it often reaches the wrong audience. • (Matthew 5:21-24) • "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment…

  9. 2. Why God’s People Should not complain… • C. When we complain it often reaches the wrong audience. • …And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. "Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, "leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

  10. 2. Why God’s People Should not complain… • C. When we complain it often reaches the wrong audience. • (Matthew 18:15) • "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.”

  11. 2. Why God’s People Should not complain… • D. Complaining is destructive. • (Proverbs 16:28) • A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends. (NKJV)

  17. Unrepentant Sinful Attitudes Make Prayer Ineffective • (Isaiah 59:1-2) Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear.
