  1. Vehicle Tracking Technology and its Types Vehicle tracking technology has been very popular for almost a couple of decades and is now evolving with each passing year. Also known as GPS tracking, it is used by fleets for efficiency and cost-saving purposes, but also by businesses of any type and size that depend on the use of vehicles to develop their activity and wish to streamline their daily operations. Vehicle tracking technology is the most important for any business to lower operational cost and to improve profit rate, routing, customer service and efficiency. GPS vehicle tracking technology has progressed remarkably over the past few years, making it now more affordable and easy to use than ever before. GPS technology provides navigational aids, precise tracking for phones. Large Fleet management operations are no longer the lone players taking advantage of vehicle tracking technology as almost every company with a mobile asset has been modernizing communication and accountability efforts. Active and Passive tracking devices

  2. Vehicle tracking system combines the use of automatic vehicle location with software that provides complete data of vehicles’ current location. In the current market scenario, vehicle tracking devices are mainly classified as “active” and “passive” . “Passive” devices store GPS location, speed, heading, etc. Once the vehicle returns to a predestined point, the device is removed and the data is downloaded to a computer for further evaluation. Passive systems on the other had incorporates automatic download type that transfer data via wireless download. “Active” devices collect the same information as of “passive” devices but generally impart the data in near to approximate terms via cellular or satellite networks to a computer or data center for evaluation Impact Of Big Data On Supply Chain Management 1. Cellular Tracking This vehicle tracking system is the most cost-effective method of tracking. In this method, companies are able to track the mobile phone of the vehicle driver. Even if the driver is on a call, towers receiving the radio signal can help to estimate the location of the vehicle. So, whichever base station the phone communicates with, the company may know the phone is close to that base. Further approximation can be accomplished by advancing systems which helps to determine the sector in which the mobile phone resides and roughly estimate the distance to the base station. 2. Wireless Passive Tracking System This wireless tracking system is a bit more costly than cellular tracking system but the users only have to pay one time for its purchase and installation. One of the principal disadvantages of this system is accessibility as the data can only be accessed after the vehicle reaches the eventual destination. This system is not helpful in case of emergency situations like theft or road accidents as the tracking system is passive in nature and not real-time. However, this issue can be solved by installing an additional model on the vehicle with some ancillary cost. With the help of this additional tool, the fleet managers will be able to track the vehicles in real-time and maintain information about the whereabouts of the vehicles 3. Satellite-Based Tracking System

  3. This system of vehicle tracking is exceedingly expensive and a monthly fee is required for its service. This type of tracking system is mostly used by the trucking and the shipping companies as it provides detailed and real-time information of the vehicles in places with no cell phone coverage. This vehicle tracking system is considered as the most effective system when compared with the other two types of vehicle tracking system as it can provide information about the vehicles in any situation or area. With all these advancing technology every business can clearly keep a track on their assets and check on the progress of their orders. With the right type of GPS tracking in place, you can improve security, customer confidence and your bottom line as business. All of this equates to positive growth for your Business.
