  1. Design Project Kristin Frederick

  2. Who are your learners? • High School Geometry Students • Geometry has students in grades 9-12

  3. Lesson Topic LEQ- How are similar figures different from congruent figures and how can we use the definition of similar figures to solve problems?

  4. What are the learning objectives for the topic/process? Students should know: • What the main difference is between similar and congruent figures • How do sides differ in congruent figures compared to similar figures • How do angles differ in congruent figures compared to similar figures • How to write a similarity statement • How to name corresponding sides and angles • The meaning and how to calculate a scale factor • How to apply their knowledge of similar figures to problems involving algebra

  5. What is the assessment methods I will use to confirm that learning has taken place? • Assessment Prompt #1 : What are similar polygons? (to be answered in pairs) • Person #1: What is the relationship between the corresponding angles of similar triangles? • Person #2: What is the relationship between the corresponding sides of similar triangles? • Assessment Prompt #2: How do you calculate missing sides and angles in similar polygons?

  6. Instruction: Day 1 • Activating Strategy • Notes  and examples - recognizing similar polygons (see attached power point) • AP#1 • Practice: p. 392 #1-5  • Day 1 Summarizer- Graphic Organizer • Homework Assignment #2

  7. Day 2 • Notes and examples – working with similar polygons  (see attached power point) • AP #2- Write down your answer and share with your partner  • Day 2 Summarizing Strategy   • Practice: worksheet 7-3 (old book)  • Homework Assignment #3
