  2. Pick Your Party • Democrat • Republican • Other

  3. Make an Official Announcement • Tell everyone that you are planning on running for office.

  4. Start Raising Money • Have fund-raisers—you’ll need millions of dollars! • Get donations

  5. Plan Your Campaign • Hire a staff. • Recruit volunteers. • Come up with a slogan. • Have signs printed.

  6. Begin Campaigning for Votes • You want to win the nomination! • Give speeches, attend debates, visit with people in towns across the state.

  7. Get the Nomination • You have to get the most delegate votes in primary elections and caucuses. • Campaign for those undecided.

  8. Pick a Running Mate • Choose someone who would make a good president---in case you die or leave the office.

  9. Become the Official Presidential Candidate at the Convention • This is like a big party where everyone shows their support of the person nominated to run for president.

  10. Campaign and Debate Again • Campaign like crazy! • Win the support of the voters. • Talk about what your represent and believe in.

  11. General Election Day • This is the popular vote where people are selecting groups of electors to vote.

  12. The Electoral College Vote • You must have at least 270 electoral votes to win.

  13. You Win! • Celebrate! • Think about what you want to say in your inaugural speech. • Practice saying the oath you have to take.

  14. Inauguration Day • Take the presidential oath at noon • Give your speech • Attend a Congressional lunch • Lead the parade • Attend inaugural balls
