9-RotationsWARM UP Describe the Transformation using two types of notation.
UNIT 1 – Rigid Transformations 9-3 Rotations
9-3 Rotations • Rotation – Turns every point of a preimage • through a specified angle (angle of rotation), • and direction about a fixed point (center of rotation). • Keeps its same size, shape, but NOT orientation. • Still an isometry. • Direction is important (clockwise, counterclockwise).
9-3 Rotations B. A. C. D.
9-3 Rotations • Rotation – • Can also be preformed as a composition of reflections over intersecting lines.
9-3 Rotations • Rotational Symmetry – can be rotated less than 360 degrees and look the same • In art and science it’s called radial symmetry • The amount of times the figure coincides with itself is the order • Magnitude the number of degrees rotated before it coincides with itself again. Magnitude: 90° Order: 4
