  2. Good News for Palliative Care Palliative care continues rapid growth in hospitals with 96% increase in the last five years. According to latest AHA data: • 30% of all hospitals have a program • 50% of hospitals with over 75 beds have a program • 70% of hospitals with over 250 beds have a program • 57% of hospitals with a cancer program approved by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) have a program • 75% of Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH) members have a program • 46% of hospitals in cities with a population of 1-2.5 million have a program

More Good News for Palliative Care • ABMS now recognizes palliative care as medical subspecialty • National Quality Forum (NQF) to release A National Framework for Palliative and Hospice Care Quality Measurement and Reporting • Newsweekfeatures palliative care as one of the top ten solutions to America’s hospital crisis: “Health for Life, Fixing America’s Hospital Crisis,” Newsweek, October 16, 2006.
