It can be found on the Website at: www.sctech.edu/programs/course-catalog/ • Please be familiar with the policies and procedures in your Southern Crescent Technical College Student Handbook/Course Catalog.

  5. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) *The college may disclose, without consent, “directory” information such as a student’s address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance.

  6. STUDENT ID Ensure to always have and display your ID as required while on campus!

Student Information Drug/Alcohol Free Campus SCTC is a drug and alcohol-free campus.  The use of or possession of any dangerous or controlled drug is prohibited on SCTC property or at any SCTC sponsored events. Student Code of Conduct Please visit the website  for information about the SCTC Student Code of Conduct:   https://www.sctech.edu/currentstudents/resources/student-handbook/ Safety SCTC will provide a reasonable environment of safety for achieving educational goals. In compliance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 and  Student Right-To-Know (Public Law 101-542), SCTC has established policy and  procedures for governing the implementation of this act. Grievances and Appeals Page 64 covers the procedures and steps.

  8. SMOKING ON CAMPUS Smoking is ONLY allowed in the designated smoking areas.

  9. CHILDREN ON CAMPUS • Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Unless enrolled in dual enrollment and possess a valid student I.D. • Children are not allowed in classrooms or labs

Last Day(s) to ADD/Drop Courses The first 3 daysof the term is the “drop/add” period.   Last Day to Withdraw The last day to withdraw from a course with a “W” grade is listed each term on the Student Calendar.  https://www.sctech.edu/currentstudents/resources/academic-calendars-student/ *The last day to withdraw for fall is October 28th, 2019 **This may impact your financial aid eligibility

  11. Student Accounts-Business Office Deadlines will be posted on: Plasma screens around campus The cashier windows SCTC website (main page) SCTC Facebook SCTC Blackboard website. Important Withdrawal Reminders Withdraw within the first three (3)instructional days of the semester – 100% refund(August 13th – 15th)  Withdraw after the first three (3) instructional days of the semester- charged 100% for all tuition and fees. (SAP) Students will need to speak with the Academic Affairs office regarding withdrawing. Students will need to speak with the Financial Aid office for more information regarding their financial aid award.

  12. Student Accounts-Business Office SCTC communication Ensure all personal information is up to date Login, setup, and CHECK your email account (stu.sctech.edu.) This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT WAIT FOR THE SEMESTER TO BEGIN Refunds (BankMobile) Each semester, student refunds are paid approximately 48 days after the semester begins Select your refund options: Electronic deposit to another bank Account (an existing personal account) (24 Hours) Electronic deposit to a BankMobile Vibe checking account (new checking account with BankMobile) (24 Hours) Or Paper check mailed directly from BankMobile that will be delivered to your home address on record with our Admissions. (5-7 business days)

Student Accounts-Business Office Senior Citizen Waiver –  Individuals age 62 or olderare allowed to have their Tuition ONLY waived Payment Deadline- All student balances must be paid in FULL by financial aid, the student, or a combination of both by July 29th, 2019 for the Fall semester. Payment Options In person at the cashier window Sign up with Nelnet for the payment option (www.NELNET.com) Log in online using your student Banner Web account. Students can pay with a major credit card (Mastercard or Visa). You can pick up the online payment instructions from the Business office cashier window or download them from the SCTC website, www.sctech.edu / Where do I Start / then click Tuition & Fees.

  14. Student Accounts-Business Office * Parking decal You have two weeks from the first day of the semester to get a decal. Register and complete the Parking Permit Application (students must have their vehicle license plate number). Only the first initial decal is free. Every additional or replacement decal in the future will be $5.00 each. *Students must always park in student parking. Student parking is any parking space not designated for visitors, employees, guest, and handicap; unless you have authorization to park in a handicap space.. Please do not park on the grass

  19. In-Person Library Resources and Services Checking Out Materials • To check out any materials you must have a valid current student ID. Books are checked out for 8 weeks, DVDs for 2 weeks. Computer and Printer/Scanner Access • Each student receives a free print allowance (100 pages) at the beginning of the term. Once it is used up, students must pay to print. • Black & white copies are 10 cents per page, and color copies are 25 cents per page.  • Students can scan to their own flash drives. Student IDs • Student IDs are made in the Libraries. New students will receive their first ID free of charge. You must have a copy of your schedule (or acceptance card) in order to have an ID made.  • If the ID is lost or stolen, there is a $5.00 replacement fee. Interlibrary Loan • Place an interlibrary loan request if there is an item that the library does not have that you’d like us to find access to.

  21. Online Library Resources and Services GALILEO • GALILEO is our collection of online periodicals, e-books, and videos. • The GALILEO password changes every semester. Contact the library staff for current password. LibGuides • LibGuides are online research guides that help you find reliable sources. You can use them from any location at any time.

The Tutoring & Mentoring Center Tutoring Services Mentoring Services Peer mentors  coach, guide, encourage, and support students in their coursework.  Peer mentors must apply to serve and undergo training in order to work with students.  We can provide peer mentoring in the subject areas and at the times during which we have volunteers available. • Face-to-face professional tutoring services are available in English, reading, and math. • Online, professional tutoring is available in the following courses: Accounting 1100, Biology 2113, Biology 2114, Chemistry 1211, English 1010, English 1101, and all math courses.

Distance EducationYour Student Email/Password is Your Life • Your email account – and, particularly, your password – is your key to academic success! • Like a car without its engine, without your email account and password, your academic life doesn’t work. • You need your password for: • Checking student email (communicating with instructor) • Logging in to Blackboard (doing assignments and taking tests) • Logging into Banner Web (financial aid, enrolling, transcripts) Engine Design and Function

  27. Distance Education Checklist • Setup Student Email: Students must use SCTC's email to communicate with instructors. Personal emails are not acceptable. Individual email addresses can be found in Banner Web. • Login to Blackboard: Students who don't login the first week of the semester will be dropped from their course. Classes cannot be accessed until semester begins.  • Login to Banner Web: Contains personal info, class schedules, registration, financial aid info, campus directory, and course catalog. • Use the Helpdesk: Students receive solutions to Blackboard and email problems through the SCTC Helpdesk.

  29. New Students As a new student, you must first set up your student email account in order to access your coursework on Blackboard, our web-based learning management system.

  30. Getting Started To start, go to www.sctech.edu, then click on the Current Students link.

  31. Now, click on Find my Student Email Address.

  32. On the SCTC Student Email Lookup App, supply the requested information. The first time you go to log in, your Student ID will be Tigers + last six of your student ID: Tigers######

  33. After entering your information, your student email and your student username will show on the screen. Going forward, your student username will be the portion of your student email address that comes before the @ sign, such as the part underlined, below: jstudent1@stu.sctech.edu Your email is jstudent1@stu.sctech.edu(used with Office365 / Outlook email) Your student username is jstudent1 (used to log into Banner Web and Blackboard)

  36. Email/Office 365 Student Login • Your initial password is Tigers + last 6 digits of your student number…  first.last@stu.sctech.edu For example, TigersXXXXXX Click Sign in.

  37. Email/Office 365 Student Login • You’ll be prompted to change your password. • Your Old password is the same Tigers######. • Create a new password and type it again. • 8 or more characters: upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters • Click Submit. jstudent1@stu.sctech.edu

  39. Log Into Blackboard • Return to Current Students • Under Student Login, click on Blackboard Click Login Here in the center of the page

  40. Log Into Blackboard • Use your email username without @stu.sctech.edu (Ex. ajones2) • Use your same email password • Classes will not appear in Blackboard until the first day of the semester.

  47. Distance Education If you can’t remember your password, or get locked out of your email, Blackboard, or Banner Web, you can submit a Helpdesk ticket. From the Current Students page, look at the Quick Links column on the left-hand side and select Helpdesk for Blackboard/Email. This will take you to the Student Helpdesk (next slide).

  48. Here you will enter the following: • First and Last Name • Student ID • Blackboard Login • Primary email • Alternate email • Phone • Captcha text (random numbers/letters in the box) • Problem Category • Attach File (if necessary) • Problem Description • Then, click the Submit Service Request button. • Responses come within 24 hours Monday-Thursday. • All requests made Friday through Sunday will be answered on Monday.
