Vaikundarajan spreads awareness about Aids on World Aids Day
December 1st is celebrated as World Aids Day every year all over the world • This year, Vaikundarajan would like to break some commonly presumed myths about this life threatening disease
Myth 1 You get HIV Aids by being around people who are HIV positive • Evidence shows that HIV is not spread through touch, tears, sweat, or saliva • You get HIV positive only from infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid, or mother's milk.
Myth 2 I can get HIV from mosquitoes • Studies show no evidence to support this claim • When insects bite, they do not inject the blood of the person or animal they have last bitten • Also, HIV lives for only a short time inside an insect
Myth 3 Its very easy to spot an HIV- positive patient • You can be HIV-positive and not have any symptoms for years • The only way for you to know if you're HIV-positive is to get tested
Myth 4 If I am HIV-positive my life is over • In the early years of the disease epidemic, the death rate from AIDS was extremely high • But today, antiretroviral drugs allow HIV-positive people and even those with AIDS to live much longer, normal, and productive lives
Vaikundarajan supports this initiative to spread awareness about AIDS • He extends his heartfelt sorries to families and friends who have lost their loved ones by this disease all over the world
