  6. WHY IT’S IMPORTANT?

  7. LOOK • Attire • Hygiene/Grooming • Body Language • Eye contact, gestures, posture, body movement, facial expression—SMILING, confidence • Unspoken “stuff” a.k.a. vibe

  8. SAY • Oral/spoken communication skills Remember the 3 Vs: Verbal – the words you say Vocal – how you sound Visual – how you look (part of L in LSD) • Written communication skills • Questioning skills • Honesty • Courtesy

  9. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND PRACTICE SOME MORE Press Conference Activity: • Think of something you know a lot about and be prepared to answer questions about it • Audience will serve as reporters

  10. Teamwork Self-discipline & self-confidence Self-motivated Flexible/adaptable Dependable/good work ethic Leadership Organized Manages time well Multicultural skills Good dining etiquette DO

  11. MARSHMALLOW TOWER ACTIVITY • Directions: • Divide into groups of 5 people • Each team gets a bag of marshmallows and straws • Team gets a total of 8 minutes to create a free-standing monument • First 3 minutes everyone participates

  12. MARSHMALLOW TOWER ACTIVITY • After 3 minutes, tell the participants they cannot speak • After 2 more minutes, tell the participants they can speak but can only use one hand • After 2 more minutes tell 2 members to step out of the group and not participate • After 8 minutes total, they need to let go of the monument—the highest free-standing monument WINS!!!
