extraordinary • The Negro Leagues had extraordinary players, and adoring fans came to see them wherever they played. • An extraordinary event took place when a man walked on the moon. 5
apathetic • And many people were apathetic about racial problems. • The students were apathetic about their homework. They didn’t even bother to check the answers to their math problems. 7
intimidate • He would have to possess the self-control not to fight back when opposing players tried to intimidate or • hurt him. • Tests intimidate, or scare, some students. 9
