Exploring the Concept of Being Rendered New in 8th Grade Language Arts
In this lesson, we delve into what it means to be "rendered new," by examining how traditional concepts, objects, and characters can be updated to reflect modern sensibilities. Using examples such as the transformation of the classic 1956 Corvette into the contemporary 2013 model, as well as the evolution of cultural icons like Spider-Man and Barbie, students will learn to identify ways in which familiar themes and representations can be refreshed. This exploration encourages critical thinking and creativity as students connect past and present in various forms of media.

What does it mean to be rendered new? Rendered = to cause or to become; to produce a copy New = modern, present day, current, updated Therefore… Rendered New = to become modern
How can you render something new? Take something traditional: *traditional does not have to mean old! In this sense, it means what you would typically think of when that object/person/place etc. comes to mind 1956 Corvette - a classic car, standard doors, frame, windows, wheels and so on. When you think of a corvette, you might think of something that looks like this.
How can you render something new? And add a modern twist! 2013 Corvette Although this is a corvette, like the 1956 one previously shown, it has been updated to be “more modern”. Identify ways this car has been rendered new. If something is rendered new, it has the basic design or concept as the traditional version, but it has been updated
