Understanding Distributions of Poorly Known Species in the Cerrado Biome

This study aims to enhance our understanding of the distribution of poorly known species, particularly those that are rare or microendemic within the Cerrado vegetation. Despite the existence of species like Byrsonima subterranea and Baccharis pseudotenuifolia being documented from single records, this research employs ecological space analysis using temperature and precipitation metrics. By assessing environmental similarity across the landscape surrounding known occurrences, we attempt to identify potential new populations. We acknowledge the preliminary nature of this experimental approach and aim to further validate our findings through field assessments.

  5. Understanding Distributions of Poorly Known Species The idea is to characterize the landscape and region surrounding the one known occurrence as to how similar or different it is in terms of ecological parameters.

Understanding Distributions of Poorly Known Species • To test the applicability of this approach, we will go to the field to assess whether additional occurrences of this species are concentrated in areas that are highly similar to the single known locality. • This approach is highly experimental, and its presentation at this point is quite preliminary, but it is an illustration of potential approaches to understanding better even the most poorly known species
