  1. About Bone Graft Surgery

  2. What is a bone graft? • A bone graft is a surgical procedure used to fix problems with bones or joints. Bone grafting, or transplanting of bone tissue, is beneficial in fixing bones that are damaged from trauma, or problem joints.

  3. How a Bone Graft is Performed • Your doctor will decide which type of bone graft will be used before your surgery. You’ll be given general anesthesia, which will put you into a deep sleep. An anesthesiologist will monitor the anesthesia and your recovery.

  4. Your surgeon will make an incision in the skin above where the graft is needed. They’ll then shape the donated bone to fit the area. The graft will be held in place using any of the following: • pins • plates • screws • wires • cables

  5. Why Bone Grafting is Performed • A bone graft may be used in the case of multiple or complex fractures or those that don’t heal well after initial treatment. Fusion helps two bones heal together across a diseased joint. Fusion is most often done on the spine.

  6. After Bone Grafting • Recovery from bone grafts depends on the size of the graft and other variables. Typical recovery can take anywhere from two weeks to more than a year. You’ll probably need to avoid vigorous physical activity for as long as your surgeon suggests.

  7. An orthopedist is a doctor who specializes in injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, which includes the skeleton and its surrounding joints and muscles. • Get Contact Details At: http://bit.ly/2xxFQY5
