  3. To whom do we give a request? We give a request to you Which you? tu? vous?

  4. There are actually 3 command forms Tu: speaking to 1 person you know vous: speaking to more than 1 person or speaking formally to 1 or more people nous: the “lets…” command. You are included in the request.

  5. examples regarde le match!: watch the match regardez le match! : watch the match regardons le match!: let’s watch the match

  6. Vous command plural or formal • use the vous form of the verb • do NOT use vous mangez la pizza! finissez les devoirs! attendez Jacques!

  7. Nous command “let’s …” • use nous form of the verb • do NOT use nous mangeons la pizza! finissions les devoirs attendons Jacques!

  8. Tu command 1 person you know ir and re verbs • use tu form of the verb • do NOT use tu finis les devoirs! attends Jacques!

  9. Tu command er verbs (and aller) • take s off the tu form of the verb • do NOT use tu mange la pizza! va au bureau!

  10. Irregular forms être : sois / soyez / soyons sois gentille! avoir: aie / ayez / ayons aie de la patience!

  11. special uses of aller Vas-y!: go ahead, come on, do it Allons -y!: let’s go Va-t’en / Allez-vous en! : go away! Allez! go!! (sporting events) Allez Rouge!!! : Go Red!!

  12. Negative commands ne...pas surrounds the command for of the verb ne mange pas de pizza! ne finissez pas le gâteau! n’attend pas Jacques!

  13. Ordinal numbers add ième to the number • deux = deuxième • six = sixième exceptions: 1st: premier / première 9th: neuvième 5th: cinquième
