  3. The purpose of Curriculum Night is… a) for parents to meet their child(ren)’s teachers and to learn about the exciting academic program E. L. Bouie, Sr. Traditional Theme School has to offer, b) to hear first hand about teacher expectations and course requirements, and c) to answer any questions you may have about the curriculum. Purpose ☺Refer to the 5rd Grade Syllabi

Teacher Expectations The Students are expected to…. • Demonstrate appropriate behavior ( in class, specials, lunchroom, hallway, cafeteria, bathroom, library, etc.) • Complete class work/homework/projects correctly(Adhere to the quality work guidelines and it must be the child’s handwriting, etc) • Turn assignments in on time • Brings supplies daily(agenda planner, homework, paper, pencils, etc.) The Parents are expected to… • support this effort by signing the agenda planner daily, supporting / assisting with homework, signing the courier / returning it to school the following day and reviewing work / school notices with their child.

  6. Attendance Policy • The following DeKalb County School policies are required to be implemented in every DeKalb County School starting with the first day of classes. These policies are also included in the 2014-2015 Code of Student Conduct - Student Rights and Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook (p.21). • Excused absences are: illness, death in the family, religious holiday, and instances which attendance could be hazardous as determined by DeKalb County School System to name a few(See pg. 21 in the SRRCD Handbook). Anything other than these is considered an unexcusedabsence. Absences for which the parent had not called the school or sent in a note, will be considered unexcused.

  8. Attendance Policy (cont’d) It is very important for your child to come to class on time and report to school every day. Each day your child is tardy or absent disrupts their learning and presents a challenge for them to “catch up”. When a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to request any missed assignments from the teacher upon returning to school. It is also his/her responsibility to turn in made up assignments to the teacher. Please provide a note of the absence on the day your child returns to school.

Grading Policy Grading Scale: Weighted Averages (Board Policy) • A = 90% – 100% Excellent • B = 80% - 89% Good • C = 71% - 79% Fair • D = 70 Passing • F = Below 70 Failing Grading Policy: • Pre-Assessments (Formative Assessment) - 0 % • Assessment During Learning - 25% • Guided, Independent, or Group Practice - 45% • Summative Assessments or Assessment of Learning - 30% Grade Reporting Schedule First Semester Second Semester September 15th February 9th October 16th March 19th November 27th April 23rd **January 12th **May 29th

  10. AGENDA BOOKS • Agenda notebooks are mandatory for recording all homework assignments for grades one and above. The notebook is intended to provide an effective and regular means of communication between home and school by allowing parents and teachers to monitor students’ progress. • Parents are encouraged to visit the Teacher’s website for additional information.

  12. PARENT PORTAL DeKalb County School District is using a new student information system, Infinite Campus, to communicate with parents about their child’s progress at school through Campus Portal. This new system will allow parents the opportunity to be engaged in their child(ren)’s education through direct access to grades, assignments, and teachers through a confidential and secure website. How do I Assess Campus Portal ? If you had a User ID and Password for eSIS Parent Assistant, use the same credentials to access Campus Portal at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/.   15. SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR Each 5th Grade student at E. L. Bouie Sr. Traditional Theme School will complete a Social Studies Fair Project. The Social Studies Fair Project is an extension of the curriculum and serves as the 5th Grade semester project for Bouie Theme School; therefore, participation is required. The Social Studies Fair Project will be counted as a project grade (45%) in the area of Social Studies.

Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies April 21st – April 30th ☺Georgia Milestones – 5th Grade is a promotional grade.
