  3. Retraining Grants • Geared toward 2 year colleges • Requires the delivery of complete programs (1 to 2 years+) • For retraining of existing workforce, DoL • Targeted to areas affected by offshoring • Programs for technologies and the economy of the future

  4. Program requirements • Need to provide: • Value • Measurable results • Remote/distance education components • Public domain curriculum • Flexible and redefinable • Just being brick and mortar is not sufficient!!!

  5. Reasons for loss of jobs • Industrial investment in old technologies • Tax incentives or lack of tax policy causing off-shoring • Lack of technical workforce

Anatomy of a Partnership • National Instruments uses an Alliance Partner to do all hardware, software, and curriculum development • National Instruments and our Alliance Partner will aid in preparation of the grant request with the collaboration of the Community College • Commitment will be essential

Anatomy of a Partnership (cont.) • College required to form relationships with local industries affected (National Instruments will assist) • Grant submitted by College • Work performed and monitored by National Instruments, with a complete solution delivery by Alliance Member • Training of staff done at the local college • Full support provided for 1 full cycle • College will need to do continuing STEM outreach, 1+1, and other community efforts
