  2. Direct object Pronouns • Direct objects Receivethe action of the verb in the sentence. They answer the question whom or what about the verb. • I havetheapple= yo tengo la manzana • I have – verb Tengo = el verbo • Theapple– thedirectobject

Direct object Pronouns • Nota Gramatical: If the Direct object is a person or animal (personal), a “personal “A” is needed before the person. • Yo abrazo la pelota = I hugtheball (no personal “a”) • Yoabrazoa Calvino= I hug Calvino. (Calvino is a person so we need the personal “a”). • *This does not apply to the verb TENER!!!!!! Hobbes Calvino

  7. Direct object Pronouns • Direct object pronouns are placed DIRECTLY BEFORE the conjugated verb. • Veo a la profesora. -(yo) la veo. I seetheteacher I seeher • Yo quiero el libro -(yo) lo Quiero. I want the book I want it.

  8. Direct object Pronouns • When an INFINITVE follows the conjúgated verb, the direct object pronouns can be placed BEFORE the conjugated verb or ATTACHED to the infinitive. • Yo quiero comer las galletas. Yo las quiero comer. • Yo quiero comerlas.

  11. Indirect Object Pronouns • Indirect objects are nouns that answer the question to whom or for whom about the verb. Rosa gives Bob the ticket. Gives – Verb The ticket – the Direct Object Bob – Indirect Object

  12. Indirect Object Pronouns • In Spanish, indirect object pronouns are used to accompany or replace nouns that act as indirect objects.

  15. IOP • In Spanish, You must use the IOP to accompany the noun it modifies or to replace the noun. The pronoun appears before the conjugated verb. • Mamá les da el dinero a Juan y Ana.(Mom gives Money to Juan y Ana • Mamá les da el dinero. (Momgivesthem Money)

  16. When an infinitive follows the conjugated verb, the IOP can be placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive. • Le quiero vender mi coche a Sara • Le quiero vender mi coche. • Quiero venderle mi coche.
