University Archives - now University Archives in 2005: 3031 cubic feet • Over 2645 boxes, and other items (film and audio reels, photographs, computer data tapes, slides and bound materials) • 2000 volume collection currently in FLITE • Furniture including tables, a safe, cabinets, sofa and chairs that were in the Timme Library’s Historical Room • Paintings and smaller objects (drum, clock, letter box, etc.)

  30. University Archives - now • 19 standard size file cabinets, an oversize map cabinet, 2 microfilm reader/printers and 3 file cabinets with a card catalog • 109 oversized framed paintings/photographs, 18 oversize boxes Inactive Records Center: 395 square feet • 395 boxes of material

University Archives 2004/2005 • 85 collection records added to online catalog • 13 collections processed; finding aids now available on website • 107 donations of items (ranging in size from City of Big Rapids records to a 1911 Ferris Institute postcard) • Inactive records center received 201 boxes (versus 144 boxes deposited last year) • Average at least one inactive records retrieval per week for offices

  34. Information Literacy Efforts • Offered 2 credit hour course: LIBR 290 “Information Resources: FLITE & Beyond” • Continued to work with FSUS program and Gen. Ed. courses • Conducted assessment of learning for library module offered to MBA program students (and showed statistical significance for the experience!)

  35. Internal Environmental Scan Conducted June-July 2004 to answer three questions: • “I could be doing a better job at performing my responsibilities in FLITE if…” • “I know the Ferris community wants FLITE to…” • “Within the next three years, I would like to see FLITE begin to…”

  42. Significant Areas of Success • Learning-Centered University FLITE users can now access 12,358 full-text electronic and print periodical titles. Authentication for off-campus users was also simplified and streamlined in 2004. A new feature of “Find a Periodical” provides the automatic display of online passwords, speeding access for Ferris users. • Create an Engaged Campus A total of 18,196 study room uses and 4,288 room bookings were recorded in FLITE during FY 2004. FLITE aims for maximum building utilization and hosts a growing number of meetings of student, campus and off-campus organizations.

  43. Ongoing or Proposed Significant Activities • Provide highly-focused technology instruction to all FLITE employees (FLITEC training initiative). Utilize FLITE colleagues willing to share their expertise as instructors. • Augment Library Instruction and Reference Services (RIS Department); continue offering information literacy sessions in specified general education courses and program-specific courses and broaden information literacy outreach.
