  2. State-Level Postsecondary Data • Commission for Higher Education’s (CHE) Student Information System (SIS) • Warehouse has data on all students enrolled in public institutions from FY1999-FY2010 • Efforts underway to access data from the non-profit and for-profit sectors

  3. Postsecondary/Employment Data • Indiana Workforce Intelligence System (IWIS) links postsecondary and employment information • IWIS is a collaborative effort of: • CHE • Indiana Department of Workforce Development • Indiana Department of Education and the • Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC)

  4. Potential of CHE/IWIS Data • Enormous possibilities for better understanding the future supply of health care personnel and where new graduates live, work, and what their earnings are • Potential is even greater when linked to licensure and Census data

  5. Data on All Healthcare Personnel • CHE approves all new degree programs • Important to consider the entire healthcare team, including: • Physicians • Nurses • Allied health personnel • Public health workers

  6. Related National/State Initiatives • National consensus on reaching a 60% college attainment rate by 2025: • President Obama • National Governors Association “Complete to Compete” initiative • Complete College America • Detail needed on key areas, including healthcare personnel, certificates

  7. Selected Professions: Nursing • From CHE perspective, undergraduate and graduate programs are widely available, including distance education options • All community college campuses have the ASN • All university campuses have the BSN (Generic and BSN (Completion)

  8. Nursing (continued) • Graduate programs are widely available, including distance education options • New Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs: • Purdue West Lafayette (2005) • USI (2007) • Ball State (2008) • IUPUI (2009) • Indiana State, rural emphasis (2010)

  9. Nursing (continued) • Universities and health sector will need to expand existing capacity to produce more nurses • State appropriations cut in 2009-11 Biennium and likely in 2011-13 Biennium • Institutions will need to reallocate resources

  10. Selected Professions: Public Health • CHE in agreement that Indiana needs greater capacity in public health: more adequately prepared personnel and research • Likely: at least one, perhaps two, schools of public health • Include focus on rural health
