L'Aquitaine. Aquitaine is a region of the Southwest of France. It is anchored on the Atlantic facade and Pyrenees (chaine of mountain). It counts five departments: Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne and Pyrenees-Atlantic.

  1. L'Aquitaine Aquitaine is a region of the Southwest of France. It is anchored on the Atlantic facade and Pyrenees (chaine of mountain). It counts five departments: Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne and Pyrenees-Atlantic. Aquitaine is the name given for at least the 1st century before Christ It was under several dominations : Celtic then Roman, then wisigoth, francs, English and, to finish, french.

  2. The major means of the economy of Bordeaux are tourism, aeronautics and viticulture. His wines are varied to such as Sauterne, Pauillac, Saint Emilion … Bordeaux Bordeaux is the biggest city of Aquitaine, prefecture of Gironde. It is known for its vineyards and a party of the city is classified in the Worldwide Heritage of the UNESCO, thanks to its ancient monuments.

  3. Architecture of Bordeaux From 1600 till 1900 the city of Bordeaux crosses classical style (with its quays), in new and baroque Art (with its bourgeois houses). We also find typical houses from Arcachon and Landes.

  4. Sports and Gastronomy in Aquitaine Aquitains people do several sports as rugby, football, 'Pelote Basque'. The practice of surfing is developing more and more by the nearness of the ocean and the good results of the surfers of the region. The gastronomy of the west South is renowned for foies gras, confits, duck breasts … Canneles (Small fluted creamy cakes) are a speciality of Bordeaux.

  5. Gironde There since millions of years, the estuary of Gironde is the biggest estuary of western Europe with 75 Km of long and until 12 Km of large. It is common in both rivers : Garonne and Dordogne. Tourism is one of the major economic activity of the department of Gironde. This tourism is concentrated predominantly on the coastal zone called "the coast of Silver."

  6. LA DUNE DU PILA Dune measuring 500 m from east to west and 2,7 km from the north to the south, it contains about 60 millions cubic metres of sand. It is the biggest dune of Europe. It is a very touristic place and the view that it gives from the top enraptures all passers-by. BASSIN D'ARCACHON The basin of Arcachon located on the West by Bordeaux, is a small sea of salt water opened on the Atlantic ocean. Arcachon is known for its parks to oysters. The harbour of Arcachon is the most important of Gironde for fishing.

  7. LE PAYS BASQUE The Country-Basque has an oceanic climate. It is part of France and Spain. The Basque language is official, spoken by more than 800 000 persons in the world. Fauna and flora are varied thanks to climate. The Country-Basque is renowned for its gastronomy and its festivals. The Basque ball is sport which is played in most cases in the Basque Country. The Basque ball is constituted of several existent traditional games of the “game of Palm” (The rebot, the pasaka, the bare hand, the xare, the pelota basket …)
