Welcome to the Multimedia Classroom Orientation The purpose of this TAF funded room is to provide ETSU faculty and students expanded access to multimedia instructional technology in their classroom instruction. The room maintenance and support is provided by the Office of Information Technology

  3. Who to Call for Help • Room or equipment problems • Use wall phone, call 854-7451. This will page the technician on duty. Enter the phone number from which you are calling.   5. Security • Lock room and cabinet after use! • Room Key (ID card) (see Judy Bragg, rm. 321) • A/V cabinet key (issued during training) • Theft • Phone lines • Vandalism • Equipment settings • (don’t adjust equipment ) • (don’t change wires)

  10. Door Lock Procedure Insert card here • Insert ID Card (ETSU end first) • Remove card to unlock door (green light on steady). Door will remained locked in this mode. • To disengage lock insert card twice “double dip” (green light will flash) • To re-engage lock “double dip” card (red light on steady) • To engage deadbolt on lock, insert and remove card, then lift up on handle Indicating lights

  15. On Entering the Room • Turn on and adjust lights • Turn on Master power for AV cabinet • Turn on computer monitor • Turn on touch panel power at base of panel • Turn on LCD projector (touch panel control) (wait, look for green lights) • Select video or computer input source

  16. On Exiting the Room • Turn off projector (touch panel, wait, look for red lights) • Turn off computer monitor • Return mouse to cradle • Turn off Master power for AV Cabinet • Lock AV cabinet and desk • Turn off lights • Lock room door

  18. Touch Panel • Touch sensitive • If it goes to sleep, touch screen, or turn on power switch at base of panel • Portable • Remember! Power cord must be reconnected • Main jobs • Turn on and off LCD Projector • Select video source for room display • Control the A/V equipment operation • Adjust volume of audio source (tap up or down)

  23. Document Camera • Used to project images of 3D objects, textbooks, transparencies, slides, newspapers

Document Camera Presentation • Turn on Master Power for AV cabinet • Turn on document camera power (left side) • Turn on LCD projector (touch panel) • Turn on computer monitor (front of monitor) • Select Doc Cam input on touch panel • Turn on lights at doc cam • Place object on base • Adjust focus and zoom

Video Tape Presentation • Turn on Master Power for AV cabinet • Turn on LCD projector (touch panel) • Turn on power switch at VCR • Insert video tape in VCR (cabinet) • Select VCR input (touch panel) • Select VCR Controls, Play (touch panel) • Select channel F-1, for a blue screen and no sound • Select “Back” to return to main page (touch panel) • Adjust volume up or down (tap..tap..tap)

Cable or Satellite Television Presentation • Turn on Master Power for AV cabinet • Turn on LCD projector (touch panel) • Select VCR input (touch panel) • Select VCR Controls, Channel up or Channel Down (touch panel) • ETSU Satellite channel is Channel 7 (call helpdesk 9-4648 for arrangements) • Select “Back” to return to main page (touch panel) • Adjust volume up or down (tap..tap..tap)

DVD or CD Presentation • Turn on Master power for AV cabinet • Insert disk in DVD player (cabinet) • Select DVD input (touch panel) • Select DVD Controls, then Play (touch panel) • Select “Back” to return to main page of touch panel • Adjust volume level as needed, tap screen in increments up or down (touch panel)

Laser Disc Presentation • Turn on master power for AV cabinet • Insert disk in laser disc player (cabinet) • Select laser disc input (touch panel) • Select laser disc controls, then play (touch panel) • Select “Back” to return to main page of touch panel • Adjust volume level as needed, tap screen in increments up or down (touch panel)

Remote Mouse Operation • Return the mouse to its cradle after use. • The mouse can be used either on the table like a typical computer mouse or remotely by pressing and holding the “trigger” down. Double clicking on trigger locks pointer for remote use. • A spare battery is provided in the event the battery in use loses its charge. • Replace battery if needed and put the dead battery on charge.

Computer Applications and Directory Access • Microsoft Office Suite and Netscape Navigator are installed on the instructor’s system. • Contact the Multi-media classroom manager if you require other applications installed • Store your personal files and applications to your personal directory on drive “M” • Only the files stored in your personal directory are secure and safe • Faculty web space sign-up page http://faculty.etsu.edu/websignup.htm

  33. Computer Access Instructions • As an assigned classroom instructor, you have an account and a directory on the new multimedia server. The instructor’s PC has been configured to give you access to your directory. • The username to log on is the same as your access e-mail id and the password is the same as the username, you will be prompted to change the password the first time you log on. • A network drive will be mapped for youautomatically when you log on, it is the M: drive.

  34. Computer Instructions cont. • You have full control ofthis directory so do not forget to log out after the class is over. If youdo not log out, someone could sit down at the machine and delete all of yourfiles. You do not have to shut the pc down to log off, the steps to log off are: • click the start button • select shut down • select close all programs and log on as a different user.

Laptop Presentation • Turn on Master power for AV cabinet • Turn on LCD projector (touch panel) • Connect laptop to display, Ethernet, and a/c connectors • Power-up laptop • Configure laptop to access network if required (separate instructions) • Select computer application • Select laptop on touch panel • Press FN F8 on the laptop to project the image to the projector. Note: You may have to press the keys a few times to see the image on both the laptop and screen.

  37. Smart Board This computer input device can capture your freehand drawing and text to been stored as a file the computer. The file can be an HTML or an as an image. Select “Smart Notebook” on the computer desktop
