  2. Customs The women wear grass skirts and feathered attire for nobility and royalty. When a child is born it is a custom for the family to hold a luau because their first birthday is considered a huge milestone. They have different dances that they perform. They are Hula Kahiko and Hula Auana. The costumes include the anklets made of dog’s teeth or whale bone, called Kupea. They also wear a skirt or pau made of tapa, and the lei or the garland for the shoulders and head.

  3. Fabric Some of the fabrics they use are: poly/cotton, cotton, barkcloth, microfiber, rayon, and more. They call these shirts Aloha Shirts and Aloha Shorts. They also have Pa’u Skirts.

Shirts/blouses must be buttoned up. Jackets and sweatshirts are not a substitute for a collared shirt. 2. On Fridays students will be allowed to wear any HMA T-shirts, such as athletic shirts and Camp Erdman class shirts. P.E. shirts are not allowed. 3. Please see the general dress guidelines on requirements for shorts/pants or skirts for the girls.

  6. Weddings Hawaii USA It is custom is Hawaii for the bride and groom to do a Money dance. The guests express their best wishes to the newlyweds with a monetary gift.

  7. Men and Women’s clothing Rubber slippers go everywhere. Leave the tie at home, an Aloha or polo shirt is standard. Island etiquette suggests removing your shoes before entering a home, so wear shoes that slip on and off easily.
