  2. What are executive functions? Brain-based functions required for humans to execute, or perform, tasks What your child needs to make his/her dreams come true

  3. Examples of Executive Functions Response Inhibition Working Memory Emotional Control Sustained Attention Task Initiation Planning/prioritization Organization Time Management Goal-Directed Persistence Flexibility Metacognition

  4. The Basics Consistent bedtime No television in bedroom Eat balanced meals Planned homework time Quality time with kids

  5. Time Management The capacity to estimate how much time one has, how to allocate it, and how to stay within time limits and deadlines. It also involves a sense that time is important.

  6. Time Management Interventions • Calendar for child • Use post-it/sticky notes • Nonverbal reminders • Helpful with multi-step directions • Visual Timers • Picture/written schedule (with child input) • Parent cues (simple with neutral tone)

  7. Time Management Interventions • To-do list • Have child prepare materials night before school • Backpack • Lunch • Clothes laid out • Shower/bath before bed • Allow breaks
