  2. Why is the Nerd’s Discovery Needed? • Many people suffer from the common cold • Until now, the only cures usually took as many days as the cold lasted

  3. More Reasons……… • Americans spend billions of dollars a year on medicines that relieve the symptoms of the common cold • This will cure the cold within 12 hours of taking the first dose

  4. Dr. Von ScienceNerd,What’s in it? • A special compound that I have named, “Granule X”, combined in solution form with Purified H2O

  5. Okay….so what’s the problem? Why isn’t it currently available? • The medicine must be in solution form so the consumer won’t have to shake and mix it. This guarantees the correct dosage

  6. More…… • The medicine must be shipped, stored and taken at room temperature. It should not have to have its temperature changed once it leaves the factory.

  7. Again Dr. Von ScienceNerd, What’s the problem? There’s one “little” snafu I need to work out: • The correct dosage calls for 50.0g of “Granule X” being dissolved in 300.0mL of purified water • The finished product must contain this dosage at room (22oC) temperature

  8. Problem, continued….. • The solubility of “Granule X” in 300.0 mL of purified water at 22oC is 20.0g • In order to fit 50.0g of “Granule X” into 300.0 mL of purified water, the water would need to be in excess of 75.0oC. That is too hot to ship, store or consume • And remember, it MUST be in a liquid, solution form

  9. What is the name of this new miracle drug? • I have aptly named it: Supernerd Cold Cure Supernerd Cold Cure

  10. When can we expect Supernerd Cold Cure on pharmacy shelves? • I have been working and working to try to solve this solubility problem. Until I do, “the cure” will not be available to anyone

  11. More Supernerd info….. • I have been working on this cure with my lab assistant, Beaker (who previously worked with Professor Honeydew) for over 21 years.

  12. It has just been learned that Von Sciencenerd’s lab assistant, Beaker, has just solved the nerd’s “snafu”.

  13. Beaker has figured out how to: • Make a solution with 300.0 mL purified water and 50.0 g of Granule X, that will remain a solution at room temperature once it leaves the factory.

  14. Your job: Explain Beaker’s solution to the solution problem!
