BASC PARENTS INFORMATION NIGHT 9TH Nov 2010
Ballymoney A S C • Introducing myself, (Chairman of Management Committee), and the committee members speaking tonight • ·Dean McElfatrick • · 2 girls both team swimmers, with Charlotte (13) still in the club. • · Committee since 2003, Chairman on-and-off since 2005.
Objectives for this evening New families How the club works and who to ask if you have any questions Existing families Raising awareness of the challenges that the club faces now and in the future Hope to keep to 45 mins, so keep questions to the end ?
TWO MAIN ASPECTS TO THE CLUB A - SWIMMING Obviously this is what is most important B - ADMINISTRATION You don’t get A without B
ADMINISTRATION • Club organisation (Dean) • Money matters (Michelle) • Membership (Rhona) • Child Welfare Issues and basic safety rules (Mark)
SWIMMING • Overview of swim training and competition ASA pathway and awards. Club coach training (Alex) • Minor pool (Bill & David) • Main pool – Monday Sessions (Marcus & Alwyn) • Main pool - Tuesday Sessions (June) • Advanced swimming & Open galas (June)

The Club Calendar • September to June • Holidays (Christmas & Easter) • Team galas June is a busy month • AGM • Club galas • Awards Night • Re-enrolment & recruitment ??
Committees, Coaches & Parents Management Committee: Ø Elected at AGM in June Ø Monthly Committee meetings roughly every two months. Ø 12 members with various jobs (Secretary, treasurer and many more). Coaches Ø Fully qualified coaches (Level 2) Ø Qualified assistant coaches (Level 1) Ø Pool-side helpers Parents Ø The only resource we’ve got
Volunteers We are all volunteers to the club but we didn’t volunteer as a child minding service!! Do you remember the CLUB VOLUNTEER FORM ? We can’t afford to pay people to do these tasks at our level of fees.
Parents Every family has one adult club member • All the members of the Management Committee and coaches are parents • Parents are also involved on a rota basis with two other activities: • Desk register – a basic H&S requirement and an essential part of club management • Pool-side supervision – a basic requirement of Swim Ireland which combines a quality assurance and child protection role There is therefore a role for EVERY adult member
What type of parent are YOU ? • Have you an interest in swimming and coaching? • Maybe you’re not interested in coaching or swimming but you’re kids are well settled in the club and you feel it’s maybe time you got a bit more involved ? • Perhaps you don’t want too big a role but will take your turn and help out where you can? • Perhaps you don’t want ANY involvement yourself, the club is for the kids. Hey, isn’t that what the fees are for?

Safety Basics. • Safety of the children at the club is paramount. • The club only assumes responsibility for the children when they arrive at pool-side. • Parents are responsible for their children in the foyer and changing rooms as well as outside the centre. • Emergency contact details need to be up to date to make sure you can be contacted during the session.
Another thing you should know • BASC is an “inclusive” club • No swimmer is ever asked to leave because they aren’t fast enough! • Responsibility towards those with disabilities.
