  3. 2008 First Steps: Leading by Example • City Council adopts Green Resolution (2008-75) • All new City facilities will meet a recognized sustainable design criteria • Pursue Green Local Government Certification • Consider and review mandatory ‘Green’ development standards and encourage ‘Green’ building

  9. 2013 Expanding Our Vision Alternative Energy Team progress • The Alternate Energy Group has focused on exploring City-Wide energy savings. • Coordinate and align sustainability efforts following State statue for Energy Performance Contracting. • Enlist co-workers and community as partners in reducing waste and energy use.

  11. 2013 Expanding Our Vision Alternative Energy Team progress • The Team’s research efforts led to numerous discussions with governmental and educational entities that have already pursued the program offered in the statute. • Request for Qualifications – Team moved ahead with the evaluation process and selected the team of Siemens/CPH Engineers to provide the service necessary to implement a plan of action. • Staff then negotiated a contract to begin the initial phase of the program.

  13. 2014 Expanding Our Vision Alternative Energy Team progress • How do we get there from here? • Council approves the Project Development Agreement (PDA) that will allow the Alternative Energy Team to start the Audit Phase with Siemens. • Siemens/CPH completes the audit of selected sites and potential savings projects while working with city staff. • Staff then evaluates audited energy savings option and compiles recommended project listing. • Team schedules a future workshop item with council in 4 – 6 months to present specific project recommendations, expected outcome, projected savings and potential funding sources/options. At this point the Project Development Agreement has been completed and Council may move forward with the process or opt to take no further action if desired. • Projects are completed and savings begin to be realized. A portion of the savings then pays for the projects funding.

  14. 2014 Expanding Our Vision Alternative Energy Team progress • Objective 4.3.3 The Alternative Energy Team’s goal for this project is to share ideas and promote cultural change necessary to reduce energy consumption throughout the City’s operations.

  15. 2014 Council Action Now & Future Alternative Energy Team recommends: Now • Team recommends Council approve resolution authorizing City Manager to execute the Energy Savings Project Development Agreement with Siemens Industry, Inc. for $ 53,683. Future • After audit completion, staff will evaluate potential energy savings options and present recommended projects to council utilizing the Performance Contracting Agreement (PCA) for recommended implementation.
