  2. Happiness Definition • hap·pi·ness •    /ˈhæpinɪs/ Show Spelled[hap-ee-nis] - good fortune;pleasure;contentment;joy.

  3. Description • A mental state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. • Ex. Passing a test with 100 can result in happiness.

  4. The Colors of Happiness • Happiness can best be described with warm, vibrant, bright colors such as hues of red, orange, and yellow. • Other things that can be associated with happiness: Going on a date, getting a new car, receiving gifts, the affections of others.

  5. TV Shows, Music, and Movies • Some TV shows that seek to bring happiness to people are: Seinfeld, SpongebobSquarepants, American Dad, and Simpsons. • Happy songs: What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong, Beautiful Day – U2, Over the Rainbow – Judy Garland, Lean on Me – Bill Withers, Here Comes the Sun – The Beetles. • Happy Movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Finding Nemo, Life is Beautiful, E.T., The Wizard of Oz, The World’s Fastest Indian

Defense Mechanisms • Some methods that can be used to conceal your happiness: • Denial – Refusing to accept reality • Displacement – Shifting feelings about one person or situation to another person or situation • Projection – Seeing your own faults or feelings in someone else • Punch yourself

  7. In our Lives • Kasra – “When I got my new computer because my old one was not very good.” • Jake – “When I first got my license and car and was able to drive wherever I wanted”

  8. Is Happiness Good for People? • Yes, of course it is. Everyone is happy at some point in their lives. It is a core emotion that humans experience almost daily, whether they try to or not. Both of us are happy now and will be countless times in the future. • It helps one to maintain a positive view of themselves. It acts as a mental homeostasis to balance out the bad thoughts and introduce the good ones.
