  1. Telling on others Miss Danforth and Mr. C

  2. Definition • Informing someone about an inappropriate choice a person has made.

  3. Skill Steps • 1. Decide whether the other person’s behavior is inappropriate enough to warrant telling someone. • If yes – • 2. Decide whom you should tell, and choose an appropriate time and place to tell. • 3. Tell about the behavior by getting to the point and being discreet.

  4. Benefits • When you tell on others APPROPRIATELY: • You may help someone avoid a dangerous situation • You avoid telling on others unnecessarily and being called a “Tattler”, “rat”, or a “Snitch” • You may feel confident about your mature decision-making skills

  5. “Tattler” “Miss Brooke – Adrian stepped on my toe and then Robert was laughing at Grace. Jacob and Dalton took Manny’s pencil and gave it to Anthony. Tell Thornton to leave me alone and Nick to stop looking at me. Keith poked me in the arm and Collin didn’t bring his planner to class..

  6. There are times when you should tell on others, but many students have difficulty deciding which things are important enough to tell someone about. They are afraid other students will make fun of them or be upset with them, so they don’t say anything.

  7. *Tips on telling on others • Get to the point • Provide only the facts • DO NOT add your own opinion • Explain the events in a clear sequence
