  1. Planète Urgence To fight against the destruction of the planet and reduce inequalities between North and South

Who we are? • Planète Urgence is a French/Belgian Non Governmental Organization (NGO), created in 1999 and located in France. • We aim at supporting sustainable development projects -created in Southern countries- by mobilising Northern citizens and companies skills, knowledge & time. • We send out volunteers –2000 since 1999- in Africa, Asia and Caribbean on short-term assignments.

Our Aims & strategy The aims: • Improve the skills & capacities of marginalized people in the South, covering both development & environmental protection aids. • Raise awareness and educate the public in the North, with regards to development & environmental issues. • Build a new fellowship between southern & northern citizens The strategy: • Develop partnerships at the grassroots level into southern countries, to work out on concrete fields projects. • Involve Companies from the North in helping the South to improve its social situation • Recruit & organize the sending of volunteers, who get different types of skills on 2 weeks assignments into southern countries. The volunteer assume all the expenses of his assignment.

  4. Programs & Projects: how do they run? The projects supported always go under 3 programs: • 1000 skills for development… consists of professional support => trainings by specialists, like use of computers, communication, project management, agriculture skills… • On the way to school… consists of supporting school activities & training of trainers • Supporting scientific research & protecting wildlife… consists of supporting park managers & scientists in their daily work like sites investigation, radio tracking to locate animals wearing GPS radio collars, assistance with wildlife immobilization exercises, trainings like creating / using database

Specific operation: reforestation Three paramount objectives • Climate: Green House Gas concentration attenuation • Community: Improve Social and Economic development • Biodiversity: Biotope and Biocenose rehabilitation A valuable sustainable development program A productive partnership • Yayasan Gajah Sumatera (YaGaSu): A concrete synergy between skills of Eastern and Western people • Related Government Agencies: Bapedalda NAD, BRR Aceh, Bapedalda KLH • Related Communities: Tanjung Rejo, Hamparan Perak, Pentai Labu, Sicanang, Secangang

Reforestation: Integrated mangrove rehabilitation The project • What: Mangrove reforestation and Fishing improvement • Where: District of Deli Serdang and Langkat • When: From 2006 to 2012 The project management (how) • CCB certification • Fifteen follow-up indicators • Teledetection and GIS for indicators interpretation and geostatistics
