  1. II Timothy 1:1-18 A Life Against Apostasy Becoming a Legit Christ Follower

  2. Apostasy:A total desertion of the principles of faith

  3. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus, 2To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.

  4. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • 4As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,

  5. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • 7for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 8Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace,

  6. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed,

  7. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. 13Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.

  8. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • 15You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, 17but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me—

  9. 2 Timothy 1:1-18 • 18may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Day!—and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus.

  10. If you knew that you were dying and you had one person to pass your legacy to, what kind of letter would you write him or her?

  11. 1.  Do not be Ashamed to Tell others about Jesus

  12. Mark 8:38 • For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

  13. Acts 9:5 • And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

  14. 2. Do not be Ashamed to Guard the Gospel

  15. 1 Corinthians 1:21, • For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

  16. 1 Corinthians 1:25 • For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

  17. Romans 1:16 • For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

  18. 1 Peter 3:13-17 • 13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you;

  19. 1 Peter 3:13-17 • yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.

  20. 1 Timothy 6:20 • O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,”

  21. Philippians 1:6 • And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

  22. 3. Do not be Ashamedto Support Troubled Christians

  23. 1 Peter 4:16 • Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.

  26. 1 John 3:13 • Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you.
