  1. Evaluation of Vending Machine Locationwith Simulation IL HAN CHUNG Team Member ME KYUNG BAE YU MEE LEE LUC 2006 . 11 . 15

  2. Definition of Problem The Current Location of Vending Machine Data Collection Method for Solving Problem Result of Simulation Contents

  3. Definition of Problem • Purpose • Reducing the Waiting Time of Customers • Reducing Routing Distance of Customers • Reducing of Shortage count of Raw material with Inspection/ Maintenance Interval • Range of Problem • Vending Machine in PNU • Consider Vending Machine for Beverage (with Can)

  4. The Current Location of Vending Machine # of Building : 43 # of Bending Machine : 54

  5. Data Collection (Continued) • Customers • Under-graduate/graduate students • Arrival time to PNU • Routing Path of Students • Ex) Sojourn time of Building 1 • Ex) Next Moving Building to Current Building • Probability of using Vending Machine in current building • Service Time of Vending Machine • Probability of Leaving Queue of Vending Machine.

  6. Data Collection • Service man • Routing Path for inspecting vending machine • Distance and time of each path • Inspection or maintenance time of vending machine • # of available service per maintenance

  7. The Method for Solving Problem • The Expression of Building • Consider Station Module • Routing Path of Students • Consider Route Module • Entity Type • Under-graduate Students : Maybe, Move to Several Building for Class • Graduate Students : Maybe, Sojourn to One Building • Resource • Beverage • Decide • Probability for Drinking Beverage in Current Building • Probability for Moving Current Building to Another Building • And So on…

  8. Result of Simulation • We will consider several case as following • # of vending machine in each building • Routing Path of service man • Maintenance/Inspection Interval of service man • Statistics for Result • Waiting Time in Queue • Routing Distance Until Searching Vending Machine

  10. Definition of Problem Data Collection Simulation Approach Result of Simulation Contents

  11. I. Definition of Problem • Introduction • Vending machines are convenient for customer to buy the favorite beverages. However, sometimes, some favorite beverages are empty before service man’s inspection. • Objectives • Increasing the customer’s satisfaction. • Increasing the profit of vending machines. • Reducing of the shortage of beverage by inspection / maintenance. • Scope of problem • Vending machines for beverage can only. • Four vending machines at mechanical buildings in PNU have close relationship of movement of customer.

  12. The location of considered vending machines. Number considered vending machines: 4 I. Definition of Problem (cont-) • The location of considered vending machines

  13. Service man Vending machine Finish I. Definition of Problem (cont-) • Flow chart of operations • Customer Drinking? Select beverage? Go to Bld.? Customer Leaving Other Blds. • Service man

  14. II. Data Collection • Customer • Under-graduate / Graduate / Passing student • Arrival time of each type • Portionof drinking of each type • Portionof selecting favorite beverage of each type • Portionof coming the building • Vending machine • Types of beverage • Number of each beverage type • Service time of vending machine • Service man • Inspection time of service man

  15. Formulate problem Valid? No Collect data and define a model Yes Design experiments Valid? No Make production runs Yes Construct a computer program and verify Analyze output Select the “best” Make pilot runs III. Simulation Approach • The steps in simulation study • Validation method Using statistical tools for analyzing. • No. of sold beverages. • Waiting time of customer. • No. of customer in queue. • …

  16. IV. Result of Simulation • Alternatives • Number of position of each beverage in the vending machine. • Number of vending machine in each building. • Maintenance / inspection interval of service man. • Statistics • No. of sold beverages. • Waiting time of customer. • No. of customer in queue.
