  2. James • James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ- James 1:1 • Servant= doulos- slave • “Camel Knees”/ Martyred for the faith • Key Verse:But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves- James 1:22 (NKJ)

  3. James • Sovereignty- in control. Nothing happens unless God causes or allows it to happen. Or has allowed the circumstances that permit it to happen • Reconcile- to settle or resolve, to accept

  4. James • To the 12 tribes scattered abroad, Greetings! Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything- James 1:2-4

  5. James • Trials- same word as temptations. External rather than internal

  6. James • Joy- Why? Sovereignty… • A trial is evidence that God is at work in my life • Look beyond the trial to God • Look beyond the trial to the gift • God redeems trials for those who belong to him

  7. James • To escape the trial or curse the trial is to miss the purpose of the trial

  8. James • I have to reconcile myself to the trial, knowing that God has a purpose in it • Testing- purifying • Airplanes that are produced will not be bought, until…

  9. James • Perseverance- to “remain under” • Every trial contains a gift that can only be received if I “remain under” • Enterprise, Alabama…

  10. James • Doubt puts the circumstance between me and God • Faith puts God between me and the circumstance
