ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION OVERVIEW • MAJOR CONSUMERS OF ELECTRICITY • MINING • INDUSTRIAL (NON MINING) • ‘THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT’ ( OFFICES, HOSPITALITIES, HOUSEHOLDS, SCHOOLS e.t.c.) • CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICITY NOT DIRECTLY REGULATED • HOWEVER ERB DOES TAKE AN INTEREST (DEMANDS IMPLEMENTATION ON THE PART OF THE UTILITY, CONDUCTS DIRECT PROMOTIONS TO THE PUBLIC)

  5. ENERGY CONSERVATION & EFFICIENCY • ENERGY CONSERVATION AND EFFICIENCY FOCUSES ON USING A REDUCED QUANTITY OF ENERGY TO UNDERTAKE THE SAME ACTIVITIES AS BEFORE. IT CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH: • USING ENERGY EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGIES • USING RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES INSTEAD OF NON RENEWABLE ONES • REDUCING LOSSES IN PROCESSES

INCORPORATION INTO THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT – WHY? • EASIEST WAY TO ACHIEVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IS WHEN A NEW BUILDING IS BEING PLANNED • INCORPORATION OF ENERGY CONSERVATION & EFFICIENCY WILL CONTRIBUTE TO REDUCTION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION • REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION CONTRIBUTES POSITIVELY TO SUCH GLOBAL EFFORTS AS POLLUTION REDUCTION, CLIMATE CHANGE REDUCTION E.T.C.
