TAPS. Purpose: Taps are used to cut internal threads within a drilled hole. Taps are selected by diameter, and number of threads per inch. Location of taps. Available tap sizes : diameter is in bold, followed by threads per inch. Instructions:

  1. TAPS Purpose: Taps are used to cut internal threads within a drilled hole. Taps are selected by diameter, and number of threads per inch. Location of taps Available tap sizes: diameter is in bold, followed by threads per inch • Instructions: • Select diameter, and threads per inch of the desired thread. • Consult Tap Drill chart to find proper drill bit sized for thread. • Select cutting speed by using the Cutting Speed Chart • Drill hole. • If the hole is through the material, use a tapered tap to cut the threads. • If the hole is not through, use a bottoming tap to cut the threads.
