A person who tells a story or gives an account of what happened
Story leads the reader to expect one thing, but the opposite happens.
What is the conflict?
Clues or hints that suggest events that will occur later in the plot
Nonfiction written to convey information. Ex. Brochures, directions, manuals, news reports, etc.
What is informational text?
The story of a person’s entire life written by himself or herself
The story of a person’s life written by someone other than the subject
Language that appeals to the senses: sight, taste, sound, touch, and smell
The character who works AGAINST the main character. (the “bad guy”)
The reason an author writes a passage Ex: to entertain, persuade, or inform
The methods an author uses to reveal characters and their personalities

A comparison between 2 things using like or as Ex: The baby was as cute as a button.
A direct comparison between 2 unlike things without using like or as. Ex: Time was a thief.
Giving human characteristics to an animal, object, or idea Ex: The sea called out to me.
An exaggerated statement used to heighten effect Ex: I must have told you a million times.
