    5. 5 Attendance Policy The Intern must: follow mentor teacher schedule (includes arrival, dismissal, duty, in-services, etc.) follow holiday schedule of school district notify mentor teacher and supervisor at least one day prior to absence if possible offer advance notice of absence of minimum of 3 days in order to receive pre-approval by supervisor and director or report unforeseen absences of minimum of 3 days Complete Form and Submit to OFE (pg.11)

    6. 6 Attendance Policy (Continued) Excessive absences Seven Absences (not pre-approved by Director of OFE) will result in an automatic drop from the Internship II semester by the university supervisor Intern absences may be made up at discretion of university supervisor Exceptions (Special Circumstances) Absences resulting from extenuating circumstances (consecutive absence of no more than 15 days due to illness, pregnancy, or unforeseen circumstance beyond interns control) must be reported using form on pg. 12 as soon as possible; specific conditions for exercising this policy are found on pgs. 9-10 of Internship II Handbook

    7. 7 Dress Code Student Teaching is like a semester-long interview! Relate to school personnel and students in professional manner Dress appropriately; adhere to school dress code consistently Business causal is usually very appropriate for school setting

    8. 8 Substitute Teaching Policy Interns may serve as substitute teachers only if the following conditions are met: only after third week in the assigned classroom district/school must be willing to employ intern as regular substitute teacher; districts may waive required substitute training for Internship II students serve a maximum of 10 days as substitute teacher

    9. 9 Sexual Harassment Policy Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature REFERENCE for specific guidelines pg 41-42 Compliance Inquiries Employees: Report to immediate supervisor or Compliance Officer, Mr. Wilson Ballard, Student Services 5.101, 956/381-2121 Students: Report to immediate supervisor, Chairperson or Dean of Students in Room 104 in University Center, 956/381-2262 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act should be directed to Learning Assistance Center Director, Mr. Richard Trevino at Tutoring Center Room 100, 956/381-2585

    10. 10 Sexual Harassment Policy Internship II Students shall follow school district policies regarding sexual harassment Review Employee Handbook/local district policy ECISD Mission CISD

    11. 11 Intern Responsibilities/Professionalism Review school policy handbook Become familiar with school demographics, curricular goals, assessments scores, etc. Follow daily and duty schedule of supervising teacher Attend scheduled workshops and weekly seminars Work cooperatively with range of personnel (principals, teachers, secretaries, nurse, etc.)

    12. 12 Intern Responsibilities/Professionalism Become familiar with equipment and supplies available for interns use Become familiar with curriculum guides, teachers instructional goals/objectives for academic semester, and be prepared to plan for lessons along with effective teaching/learning strategies to implement Turn in lesson plans as required by university supervisor and mentor teacher/supervising teacher Set high expectations for students and create a climate of respect and personal growth Develop competencies to be an effective teacher (PDAS) Gradually assume full teaching responsibilities (pg.22)
