Buoyant force • Is an upward force that acts upon an object in fluid
Archimedes Principle • Any floating object displaces its own weight of fluid. — Archimedes of Syracuse
Neutral Buoyancy • The object’s density when immersed in a liquid is equal to the liquid
Positive Buoyancy • The object will be less dense than that of the liquid it is submerged in and = it will float
Negative buoyancy • More dense than the density of the liquid it is submerged in = will sink
Buoyancy VS density • What is density? • Density is the amount of mass per unit of volume • Ex: the diet vs regular soda • What is Buoyancy? • The upward force on an object in a liquid • Ex: Wood block in water- will float
