  1. Persephone and the Pomegranate seeds It was a warm sunny day in the Sicilian wood and Persephone was happily picking violets. Persephone hummed a lovely tune which accompanied her so she didn’t feel alone.

  2. Pluto was watching all the lovely ladies do their jobs, Persephone stood out so much that Pluto got his chariot and kidnapped her feeling very smug. When they crossed the bridge she chucked in her flower belt and told the river to tell Demeter that she was kidnapped .

  3. Persephone’s mother was sitting by the river sad and lonely. Then she saw Persephone’s flower belt and heard the river tell her where Persephone was. Feeling afraid and sad, Demeter immediately went to Zeus and he sent the messenger Hermes.

  4. In the underworld Pluto was very happy sitting down with Persephone and having lunch. Persephone was really hungry and so scared. Pluto was offering Persephone food but she didn’t want to eat.

  5. Pluto gives Persephone 12 pomegranate seeds, she puts them up to her lips. Suddenly Hermes rushes in telling Pluto to let Persephone go. She puts her hand down 6 pomegranate seeds laid on her hand. Then she burst into tears feeling so sad.

  6. Hermes went to tell Zeus about how Persephone had eaten 6 out of the 12 seeds. Zeus thought long and hard about what to do. Finally he decided to let Persephone be with her mother for 6 months and Pluto for the rest of the year. Persephone was really happy about the decision and eventually learnt to love Pluto.
