What is the HIM Club?? • The name stands for • It is associated with the Health Information Management Programs that include: • Health Information Technology • Health Information Administration • Coding Certificate • Membership is open to currently enrolled or interested in the Health Information Management Programs here at Dakota State University Health Information Management Club all students

  3. Benefits to joining the him club • There are many benefits to joining the HIM Club including: • Socialization and Support • Networking with Professionals • Service to Others

  4. Socialization and Support • Get to know other HIM students • Come together to share ideas and concerns about HIM classes • Get advice/support from upper-level HIM students • Study sessions for HIM classes • Work together to promote the Health Information Management program

Networking with Professionals • Opportunities to attend state and national AHIMA conventions. • Benefits of attending conventions include: • Network with HIM and other healthcare professionals • Gaining a better understanding of HIM field • Getting reimbursement to defray cost of attending • Write newsletters for SDHIMA and AHIMA • Several HIM Club members wrote pieces for the AHIMA Student Connection E-Newsletter in March 2007 http://www.ahima.org/marketing/MARAPR07_SC.htm

Networking with Professionals Cont….. • Projects for SDHIMA including mailing legal manuals and writing a newsletter • HIM club has been asked to help with projects at numerous healthcare facilities • We have helped moved records, thin records, merge duplicate records, file records, and other tasks • Benefits include: • Chance to apply classroom knowledge out in the field • Chance to network with HIM professionals • Can be put on your résumé as experience

Service to Campus and community • HIM Club sponsors several volunteering opportunities • Gives students a chance to socialize while giving back to the campus and Madison community • Volunteering Activities include: • Campus-wide blood drives in Fall and Spring • Adopt-a-Highway cleanup • Day with Santa
