  5. Main Objective of Attacking Force • Was to capture Holland from Germany • Because of the hard winter there was little food or fuel and the Dutch were suffering • Once they captured Holland they would have access to important ports and be closer to capturing Germany

  6. Weapons Used • Tanks • Bren Guns • Shell Fire • Machine Guns • Airplanes

  7. Features Leading to Success • They had a lot of support from the Dutch people • Even though the allies won Germany had an advantage. They had: • Antitank ditches • Fortified positions • Huge supply of weapons

  8. Consequences • 7600 Canadian casualties • Germany lost this battle

  9. Canada’s Role • Freed major cities such as Amsterdam, Hague, and Rotterdam • The battle was won shortly after they came
