  3. SHRM Foundation Overview • Nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) • Legally separate, 501(c)(3) organization • Separate Board of Directors and budget • Not funded by SHRM membership dues

Scholarship Programs We are shaping the future of HR by investing more than $150,000 annually in education and certification scholarships. • $100,000 annually to support SHRM members pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree or professional certification • 100 awards: 20 education ($2,000 each) and 80 certification ($750 each) • Online Application available in March • Applications are due July 15 • $50,000 annually for SHRM student members for education or professional certification • Online Application; applications are due November 1

  14. Fundraising: Organizational Support HR Certification Institute donated $750K in 2012 to support the SHRM Foundation’s operations and programming. SHRM provides significant annual in-kind support to the SHRM Foundation.

Annual Campaign Success • Built upon the success of 2011 with increased contributions • 100% participation from the SHRM, SHRM Foundation & HRCI Boards of Directors • Fundraising efforts in December, 2012 resulted in record-breaking contribution total of $215,000 • The increased success of the annual campaigns allows us to support research and scholarships at higher levels as well as to fund new educational products and other initiatives

Volunteer Leader Role • Educate • Be a knowledgeable advocate on behalf of the important work the Foundation is doing to shape the future of the workforce • Fundraise • Encourage your Chapter/State Council, your Chapter/State Council board members and your other members to contribute to our Annual Campaign

Educate Your Members Promote the SHRM Foundation • Request and distribute our annual campaign brochure (available in February) and complimentary educational materials • Write about the Foundation in your newsletters, emails, websites, blogs & social media. Articles are available in the Volunteer Leaders’ Resource Center (VLRC) to copy and paste for inclusion in your communications • Conduct a presentation at a Chapter meeting or event. A downloadable PowerPoint is available in the VLRC Share our Resources • Provide information about the Foundation’s scholarships, research grants & educational products • Use our DVDs during a Chapter program and download the corresponding PowerPoint presentation from our website

Fundraising 101 • Cultivation: educate your members about the role of the SHRM Foundation in supporting the HR profession and the resources it provides to do so • Solicitation: lead by example, launch a leadership campaign & hold a fundraising event • Stewardship: thank and recognize your donors

Fundraising Checklist • Designate a SHRM Foundation Chair as a leadership position on your Board of Directors • Set a fundraising goal for your Chapter or State Council • Make a monetary contribution from the Chapter or State Council funds • Conduct a Leadership Campaign with your board members • Encourage personal giving from individual members • Plan a special fundraiser or event • Make it easy to donate by providing brochures and donation forms or donation option on registration forms and dues renewals • Participate in quarterly CLA conference calls to receive updates, learn from your peers and hear fundraising ideas

Fundraising Ideas • Invite a speaker from the SHRM Speakers’ Bureau • Hold a silent auction • Organize a local run/walk/bike race • Host a wine tasting • Designate a SHRM Foundation month • Offer incentives to members that donate (ribbons, pins, Chapter Donor Honor Roll, etc.) • Organize other fun events like karaoke or dance-a-thons

Box 79116 Baltimore, MD 21279-0116 • Who should checks be made payable to? • “SHRM Foundation” • Include your Chapter’s full name (no abbreviations), mailing address & Chapter number • Do you accept credit cards? • Yes. Visa, MasterCard & American Express • Please include a completed SHRM contribution form with all credit card donations • Do you accept online donations? • Yes, at https://sapphire.shrm.org/FoundationDonation/Donate.aspxIf using a personal credit card on behalf of a Chapter or State Council, please communicate this clearly in the “Additional Explanation” field

Ensuring the Donation is Credited Properly SHRM Foundation must abide by Government and IRS regulations • Acknowledgement: • Sent to whomever made the donation—generally, the printed name on the check. • This individual receives the acknowledgement letter and appears in reports throughout the campaign year • Recognition Credits: • When an individual has made a cash donation to the Foundation of $25 or more and would like either (not both) their Chapter or State Council to receive a “credit” for the same dollar amount • Credits are not automatically applied, the individual donor must indicate on their contribution form which entity should be credited • Credits are recognized in the Foundation’s Honor Roll following the completion of each annual campaign

Silent Auctions Chapter/State Council Silent Auction Requirements • To comply with IRS regulations and correctly acknowledge winning bidders’ contributions, proceeds from the silent auction must be accompanied by documentation listing a good faith estimate of each of the auction items, the amount of the winning bids & the winners’ SHRM member ID (or if not a SHRM member, their complete contact information) • Download the Silent Auction Donation Summary Tool to assist in complying with these requirements

  29. Submitting Multiple Donations Multiple Individual Gifts Above $25 • If you are sending several donations together, make sure that there is a separate contribution form for EACH donation being sent (this applies to checks and credit cards) • The individuals will receive acknowledgement and recognition. If you would like your Chapter or State Council to also receive recognition credit, you must indicate this on each contribution form

  30. Submitting Multiple Donations Multiple Individual Gifts Under $25 • Smaller donations should be made payable to your Chapter or State Council and deposited to your account, after which one check should be written from your Chapter or State Council bank account. Please do not send cash to the Foundation • The Chapter or State Council will receive acknowledgement and recognition for this contribution, not the individuals

  31. SHAPE/Foundation Champions • Recognizes exceptional Chapters and State Councils for their commitment, leadership and generous support. • Criteria: - Make a Chapter or State Council monetary contribution - Conduct a Leadership Campaign - Complete one or both of the following: • Contribute at least 10% more than the total of your 2012 contribution (not including recognition credits) OR • Hold at least one special fundraising event to benefit the SHRM Foundation

Conducting Your Leadership Campaign • You must conduct a leadership campaign to qualify for Gold or Platinum SHAPE Awards • To qualify for a Gold Award, you must encourage your board members to lead by example by making a minimum individual donation of $25 each with a goal of 100% participation • To qualify for a Platinum Award, you must achieve 100% participation of board members making a minimum donation of $25 each
