  5. What happens at EHSS in preparation for the University application process?

  6. September-October • Grad Assembly: September 24 • Ontario University Fair @Metro Convention Centre Sept. 27-29 • Grade 12 Classroom Visits: early October • GTA Post-Secondary Options Fair: Oct. 16th 9-11am in Caf.

November-December • Parent Council University/College Info Night Nov. 12 @7pm • PIN numbers distributed to potential grads (early November-EH has no control over this) • University school visits (listen to announcements) • Guidance Appointments (ongoing) • Research (E-info, websites, viewbooks) • Continue to read Guidance News, listen to announcements, check EHGuidance FB, Instagram, Twitter and join REMIND

  8. Key Terms OUAC: Ontario University Application Centre • Clearing house for all Ontario university applications Transmission • electronic transfer of information (demographics, marks etc.) from TDSB data base to OUAC PIN • Password created by OUAC; cannot apply without a PIN number

  9. IMPORTANT DATES

  10. Important Dates October 2019: Guidance sets up PIN numbers to be assigned through OUAC for potential grads. November 5, 2019: Transmission #1: demographics, mark history, current and projected courses, interim marks for any sem. and non-sem. courses

  11. Important Dates JANUARY 15, 2020: DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS February 4, 2020: Recommended last date for students to submit university and program changes and additional active choices

  12. Important Dates February 11, 2020: Transmission #2: demographics, mark history, current and projected courses, sem.1 final marks, interim marks for non-sem. Courses April 21, 2020: Transmission #3: demographics, marks history, interim marks for sem. 2 and non-sem. courses

  13. Important Dates May 27, 2020: The latest date all high school applicants can expect a response from an Ontario university. This includes an offer of admission; a refusal; or a deferral, once additional information is received. June 1, 2020: The earliest date an Ontario high school student may be required to respond to an Ontario university offer of admission and give a financial commitment (e.g., registration deposit, residence deposit, etc.

Important Dates July 2, 2020: Transmission #4: mark history, final marks for all courses, proof of graduation August 1, 2020: Transmission #5: mark history, final marks for all courses including summer school, proof of graduation August 27, 2020: Transmission #5a: demographics, mark history, final marks for e-learning summer school

  15. How Do I Apply? www.ouac.on.ca • Apply through OUAC101 for all undergrad programs in Ontario • For Full-time Ontario students **Do NOT apply through OUAC105**

  16. How Much Does It Cost? • $150 for 3 Ontario University Program Choices • Each addition program choice is $50 • No limit to number of program choices except $$$

  18. Ontario UniversityAdmission Requirements OSSD(Ontario Secondary School Diploma) 18 compulsory courses 12 elective courses Successful completion of OSSLT (Grade 10 Literacy Test) 40 Hours of Community Involvement (Not-for-profit organization)

Ontario University Admission Requirements Grade 12 U/M courses ENG4U – always required 5 other Grade 12 U/M courses, depending on the pre-requisites of the program/university Different universities may require different pre-requisites for the same program Students must check websites/e-info/viewbooks to check requirements

Language Requirements • Must write English proficiency test if in a non-English-instructional high-school for less than 4 full years (but should check each university website) • Every institution has its own due dates and scores • Write early so you can re-write if necessary • TOEFL/IELTS are most commonly accepted tests

  22. Ontario University Admission Requirements Additional Criteria Supplementary forms Audition Portfolio Note: Different universities will have different requirements and due dates for the same programs; students must check websites/e-info/viewbook for details and deadlines.

  23. OFFERS OF ADMISSION

  24. Conditional Offers • ALL offers of admission are CONDITIONAL until FINAL grades/diploma requirements submitted • Student must maintain a certain average as specified in the offer and/or certain grade in prerequisite courses • July transmission – if student has not met all the requirements (conditions, diploma) offer will be rescinded.

Other Admission Considerations Grade 11 marks • Universities do see them University/mixed/college/open courses (in grades 11 and 12) • do not interfere with admission as long as not included in top 6 Early acceptance • Happens automatically; students do not have to apply separately Courses taken outside of Day School • Some universities/programs will not accept/penalize

Out-of Province Applications Canadian • Applications online: deadlines are student’s responsibility • English language Quebec universities (McGill, Concordia, Bishop’s), Dalhousie, University of King’s College, U.B.C., Victoria: students must apply after submitting applications to OUAC b/c OUAC reference number required • All other Canadian Universities/Colleges : students must inform Guidance department

Out-of Province Applications American • Over 4000 universities - research/deadlines are student’s responsibility • Ideally, begin research in Gr.11 • All items, including school report, mid-term report, resume or information form, etc. are required 4 weeks prior to deadline • Give guidance counsellors enough notice to put together application package • The Common Application, and College Board are good places to start

February 5, 2020: Transmission #2: demographics, mark history, current and projected courses, sem.1 final marks, interim marks for non-sem. courses

Students with IEPs • Must self-identify at college/university during registration process (they won’t know you have an IEP unless you tell them) • Current Psycho-education assessment will be required in order to be considered for accommodations (within last 3 years) • IEPs are only for EH • Each university/college will have its own learning centre/own policies
