Transition Into High School • Freshman year is a big adjustment year. • Reminder to parents to check on your student’s progress. • keep lines of communication open between teachers, students, and parents. • Call the guidance office to schedule conferences. Diplomas • There are three different types of Diplomas offered at Lincoln High School: • Core 40 • Core 40 w/Academic Honors • Core 40 w/Technical Honors • 46 credits are required for Core 40 diploma • 47 credits are required for AHD & THD
Graduation Requirements • Total of 46/47 credits • End of course Core 40 assessment for Algebra I and English 10 required for graduation • End of Course Core 40 assessment for Biology • If your child gets behind there are programs offered to help get caught up on credits: • Summer school • Repeating classes • On-line courses fees apply • Drivers Ed: Age Requirement-15 or older on or before June 27th (first day of class) information will be in the High School Main Office at the end of the school year.
Core 40/ AHD 47 credits For the Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma, students must: • Complete all requirements for Core 40. • Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits. • Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages). • Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits. • Earn a grade of a “C” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have a grade point average of a “B” or better.
Core 40/AHD • Complete one of the following: • Earn 4 credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exams • Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from priority course list • Earn two of the following: • A minimum of 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the priority course list, • 2 credits in AP courses and corresponding AP exams,. • Earn a combined score of 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, mathematics and writing sections and a minimum score of 530 on each • Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section
Core 40/ THD 47 credits • Complete all requirements for Core 40. • Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: • Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or • Pathway dual credits from the lists of priority courses resulting in 6 transcripted college credits • Earn a grade of “C” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have a grade point average of a “B” or better.
Core 40/ THD • Complete one of the following, • Any one of the options (A - E) of the Core 40 with Academic Honors • Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys; Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information-Level 5. • Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. • Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass; Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80
Electives • Opposite of requirements, your student can choose these classes from the following areas: • Ag • Art • Auto (junior and senior year) • Business (sophomore, junior,and senior year) • Journalism • Foreign Language ( “C” or better in English, 9th grade requirement) • Music • Trade and Industry • WTCC (junior and senior year)
Testing • Acuity for Mathematics and English • Core 40 end of course assessments • PSAT: Practice SAT • SAT: College entrance exam • ACT: College entrance exam
Scheduling Process • Grade 8: Will meet with Mrs. Gibbs • Present To Students High School Expectations • Check Academic Progress • Check Required Courses To Chosen Diploma • Teacher Recommendations
Parent’s Role: • Check homework – some students may need to do more at-home studying • Provide a good place to study • Check progress frequently • Consider tutors – some students may need extra help with more rigorous classes after school help available • Review and help your child choose classes • Insist on daily attendance • Monitor activities and jobs • Help with time management • Listen
